Getting started

Getting started & the platform

Overview questions about hosting, demo access, cameras, AI, and consultancy.

Where is my data stored?

By default, on Untamed Data servers in the Netherlands. You own your footage and detections and can export them at any time. Organizations that need stricter control can run a self-hosted deployment.

How do I try the platform?

We are in beta: create a demo / test account, set up an organization and project, and connect a camera or upload files to explore the workflow. See access & pricing for the demo tier and later plans, or contact us for volume, multi-site, or enterprise options.

Which cameras work?

Most trail cameras that support FTPS (preferred) or plain FTP can upload automatically. FTPS encrypts your login and files in transit; use plain FTP only if FTPS is unavailable. You can always upload from an SD card. See supported cameras for protocols and brands.

How does wildlife AI work?

Uploads are processed by our EU-hosted inference service: animals are detected and species labeled with a confidence score. Uncertain results go to a human review queue. Details on the Wildlife AI page.

Can I run the platform on my own servers?

Yes. We offer self-hosted deployments and optional white-label / OEM branding for partners and enterprise. See self-hosted & OEM or partner enquiry.

Do you help with field deployment?

Yes. Beyond software, we offer consultancy for data management, camera selection, placement, and full monitoring programs.

Is the platform suitable for anti-poaching work?

Yes. Use camera grids, species labels, maps, and email alerts for priority or high-value species so protection teams get timely evidence. See the anti-poaching use case, or combine with consultancy for field placement and program design.

Accounts & cameras

Accounts, cameras & uploads

Logins, FTP/FTPS, passwords, and how uploads are tied to cameras.

Why do I need to create a camera before enabling FTP/FTPS?

The login is tied to exactly one camera, so the platform always knows which project and camera an upload belongs to — the camera has to exist first.

What’s the difference between FTP and FTPS — which should I use?

Prefer FTPS. It is FTP with TLS encryption: it protects your camera login and file transfer in transit so credentials are not sent in the clear. Use plain FTP only if your camera cannot do FTPS. See supported cameras for more on protocols.

Do I need a password?

No — you can log in entirely via the one-time links we email. Setting a password (under Account) is optional, for people who prefer one.

Can multiple people share one account?

No — each person gets their own login. An admin invites colleagues from the Team page; they join the same organization as a Member with their own email.

Can I delete my whole account?

Contact us — see the Privacy Policy for details, or use our contact form.

Detections

Detections, review & storage

Wildlife AI confidence, deleting content, and what happens at storage limits.

Why did my detection go to the Review queue?

The AI was under 70% confident. It waits there for you to confirm or correct it instead of being recorded as a certain species. More on the Wildlife AI page.

Can I delete a photo, video, camera, or project?

Yes. Individual photos/videos from the Dashboard or Review queue; a whole camera from its page; a whole project from the project page. Each shows exactly what will be removed before you confirm — none of it can be undone.

What happens when my storage fills up?

Uploads are never blocked; instead your oldest photos/videos are automatically removed to make room. Download or delete footage you want to keep before you reach the limit.

Privacy

Privacy & access

Who can see your data and how organizations share access.

Is my data private? Who can see it?

Only members of your organization can see your projects, cameras, and detections. See the Privacy Policy for the full details.
