Camera-trap data management for research and surveys

A camera-trap study lives or dies on the record behind it: how the survey was designed, who checked the identifications, and whether anyone can reproduce your numbers. Untamed Data keeps that structure intact, from field upload to an export you can analyze and publish, hosted in Europe.

What a study needs

Structure you can reproduce

Analysis is only as trustworthy as the data behind it. Effort, provenance, and human quality control are not extras for a survey; they're the difference between a result you can defend and a pile of labeled images.

Mirrors your design

Organize work as organization, projects, and cameras, so the data reflects your study sites and survey design instead of scattered folders.

Human QC in the loop

Uncertain detections go to a review queue where a person confirms or corrects the identification. The correction, and who made it, stays with the record.

Reproducible export

Effort and provenance travel with every detection, so a colleague, a reviewer, or future you can retrace how a number was produced.

How it works for a survey

From field grid to analysis-ready data

Projects that match the survey

Multi-camera grids by site or transect, capture time and GPS read from EXIF and file names, so deployments stay comparable across the study.

Review queue for uncertain IDs

The European-hosted AI proposes species with a confidence score; low-confidence calls wait for a human instead of being filed as fact. How the review queue works →

Relative abundance & effort

RAI is built from independent events and trap-night effort, with its assumptions stated. Valid for the same species over time, not as a ranking between species. How RAI works →

Clean export for analysis

CSV and PDF for your own pipeline, and a Camtrap DP package for sharing and archiving. Your data, exportable at any time. Data ownership & export →

Standards & publishing

Built to leave in a shape others can read

Camera-trap research increasingly has to be shareable, not siloed. Untamed Data exports a Camtrap DP package today: the open TDWG standard for camera-trap data, which other tools and repositories read. Because every detection carries its provenance (model version, and whether a person confirmed it), the dataset stays auditable long after the fieldwork ends.

Camtrap DP is designed to map onto Darwin Core, the standard behind GBIF. Publishing our export on to Darwin Core and GBIF, and direct connectors into tools like Agouti, TRAPPER, and Wildlife Insights, are a direction we are building toward, not available yet. We say so plainly on the standards & interoperability page, and we'll say so just as plainly the day each one ships.

Darwin Core and GBIF publishing are on the way. Email us and we'll tell you the moment it's live, nothing else.
